The Journey That Led To Caributi
Where do I start with what could only be described as a unique journey that led to the establishment of Caributi?
I grew up in the Caribbean on the island of St. Kitts. At age of nine (9) I discovered the love for hairdressing. Throughout my teenage years, my skills evolved, and many described my styles as extremely creative and very professional. After graduating high school, I moved to the British Virgin Islands but struggled to find employment. As a result, I relied on my hairdressing skills as my primary source of income. I later applied for a license to operate my first beauty salon.
Three years into operation, I closed my salon and moved to North Carolina to pursue a degree in accounting. Upon completing my degree, I returned to the British Virgin Islands. However, despite having a rewarding career in accounting, the passion for hair and beauty continued to occupy my mind. I eventually re-opened my beauty salon but I had the desire to contribute more to the beauty space. It was then that I decided to publish a hair magazine that highlighted hairstyles from different regions of the Caribbean. The publication was an instant success and it made me one of the first individuals within the Caribbean to publish a hair magazine of its nature.
I returned to university two more times; once to qualify as a certified accountant and the other to qualify as a lawyer. However, it was during law school that my hair became extremely dry and damaged. This was something new to me as I always had long and healthy hair. I began the daunting task of searching for hair products that could improve the health of my hair. I tried several product lines but the issue with my hair did not improve. I decided to use my kitchen to formulate my own hair products using all natural ingredients. Not only did my hair grew and flourished but I thoroughly enjoyed the experience. I knew then that I wanted to help others to achieve healthy and beautiful hair. I therefore took the necessary steps to establish a hair product line that focused on using environmentally friendly ingredients and sustainable practices. Gikaylo our hair product line was then born and will be launched in 2025.
With the demands of motherhood, compounded with the demands of the legal profession, I was no longer in a position to care for my hair. The search for a hairstylist that catered to my hair type, proved to be an uphill battle. The information was not readily available and was scattered over several platforms. I realized then that the beauty industry lacked a specialized social media platform where enthusiasts, brands, and professionals could network, share knowledge, and stay updated on industry trends. I wanted to fill this gap, by creating a social media landscape for all things beauty by fostering a dedicated community that offers a unique and tailored experience for users. BelloNecta our social media platform is the solution and will be launched in the first quarter of 2025.
To answer my opening question, Caributi was established as a beauty conglomerate responsible for the management of our brands. The name Caributi was inspired by the natural and exceptional beauty of the Caribbean.
